Browns end miserable 2017 at 0-16 with loss to Steelers

The Cleveland Browns became just the second team in NFL history to finish a season 0-16 after going down 28-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

The 2008 Detroit Lions are the only ever side to have gone winless in a 16-game NFL season.

Cleveland’s losing streak is now at 17 games in all, their only win in 2016 was in the penultimate week of the season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hold the record for consecutive losses in the NFL, having gone down 26 games in succession across the 1976-77 seasons.

Despite a 1-31 record over two seasons, Hue Jackson is expected to return for a third year in Cleveland.

Playing against a largely second-string Steelers side preparing for the play-offs, Cleveland saw their hopes of victory go up in smoke on fourth down in the fourth quarter when DeShone Kizer wriggled free of trouble, only to see his throw go through Corey Coleman’s hands in first-down territory.

JuJu Smith-Schuster once again starred for the Steelers, returning a kick-off 96 yards for a touchdown, in what would turn out to be the match-winning score.

The Steelers (13-3) were playing without injured receiver Antonio Brown and rested Ben Roethlisberger and Le’Veon Bell. Despite the win, the Steelers remained the No. 2 seed in the AFC because the New England Patriots (13-3) cruised to a 26-6 win over the New York Jets.
