Cedric The Entertainer to Produce, Star in Firehouse Comedy, Inks Development Deal at CBS
Cedric the Entertainer is set to executive produce and star in a multi-camera comedy series in development at CBS, the first project the actor and comedian has set under a new development deal at the network.
Titled “Ladder 54,” the series would take place in a big city firehouse where a crew of firefighters eat, sleep, live, laugh and fight with each other. Their relationships are made more intense by the fact that at any moment, they’ll be risking their lives for one another. They’re led by a flawed but devoted captain (Cedric) whose biggest fires are in his personal life.
Cedric and Eric Rhone will executive produce and serve as story writers under their A Bird and A Bear Entertainment banner along with Bill Martin and Mike Schiff. Martin and Schiff will write the teleplay for the project. Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor will also executive produce. Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment will produce in association with CBS Television Studios.
Currently, Cedric is touring nationally on “The Comedy Get Down Tour” with fellow comedians George Lopez, D.L. Hughley and Eddie Griffin. Coming up in Spring 2018, Cedric will co-star in the TBS Comedy Series, “The Last O.G.” opposite Tracy Morgan. He is perhaps best known for his performances in the “Barbershop” film franchise, and has appeared in other films such as “Be Cool” with John Travolta, “Intolerable Cruelty” with George Clooney, and the “Madagascar” animated franchise. He was also a key figure in “The Original Kings of Comedy,” MTV’S documentary directed by Spike Lee which captured the phenomenon of the record-breaking “Kings of Comedy Tour.”
Martin and Schiff most recently worked as consulting producers on NBC’s “Trial and Error,” which is going into its second season. They previously worked with Cedric on the TV Land comedy “The Soul Man,” on which they were co-showrunners. They also co-created the comedy series “Grounded for Life” and worked together on “3rd Rock from the Sun.”
Cedric the Entertainer and A Bird And A Bear Entertainment are represented by CAA, Visions Management, and attorneys Gordon Bobb and Nina Shaw. Martin and Schiff are repped by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment.
